Personal Statement

Eric Soto

We were one game away from regionals on little league all-star tournament. The team that we were playing was San Bernandino. They were killing us 7 to 0, I decided to take my team out of the dugout and give them a motivational speech. I said “we can do this we didn’t come this far for no reason we have the talent we can come back and win this game”. The inning after that I hit a homerun and my team never looked back. My team rallied back and ended up winning the game 11 to 7.

Many people in the world don’t have the courage to stand up for what they believe. Once when I was about eight years old I saw a man get hit in the head with a bat. I imagine if somebody would have stepped in what would be the difference. I have had many instances where I have stepped up. Showing that you have this characteristic is very difficult. People are always judging they are always criticizing. Its hard enough to stand out as it is.

Most people don’t have the determination that they need to succeed I have overcame so many obstacles in my life. I have to juggle school work and baseball. I come from a neighborhood that isn’t best. I see everybody fail and say that you must do better but that isn’t what drives me, what drives me is myself. I want to make a difference in this world, I want to be the one that saves the lives of other people. I want to be the one that makes the future better for the future president, doctors, lawyers, and anybody else that wants to make a difference in this world.

Period 6
Jackie Robinson was a groundbreaking baseball player, he provided the sport with the first African American baseball player, one of the best base runners of all-time, and was inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Throughout all of  the 18 hundreds and the 19 hundreds African Americans were excluded from Major League Baseball. Jackie Robinson significantly contributed to the Civil Rights Movement.
First of all, Jackie broke many barriers for the African American community. For example on April, 1947 he was the first  African American baseball player to play in the Major Leagues. During this time there was a lot of segregation going on and not that many African Americans were getting the credit that they deserved. There were many great ball players but, nobody had the chance to play until Jackie Robinson got his chance.
Secondly, Jackie was one of the best base stealers of all-time. He was known for being very efficient at stealing home. For example, in his first career he stole four bases and Two of them was stealing home plate. As one of the most adept base runner he paved the road for African American baseball players. Without the input of Jackie’s great skills who knows what would have happened in the future.
Finally, after his baseball career Jackie became a business man and a civil rights activists. He contributed much to the civil rights movement. For example, he worked  for the NAACP( National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), he worked with Martin Luther King Jr, Malcom X, Nelson Rockefeller, and John F. Kennedy. He also worked with children in his community.
In conclusion, Jackie Robinson has impacted the lives of many African Americans. He is still in the hearts of most of them, although he died at a very young age of 35 due to a heart attack. He has left a mark on the game of baseball, one that will never be forgotten.

Buenas Tardes Mayor Villaragosa

No podemos pagar parra esa escuela.

No podemos tener dinero si no trabajamos. No podemos agarar un Buena educacion. No hay muchas cosas que nosotros podemos hacer parra agarar dinero.

Final Essay Outline

One Thing that is good about South Central today is the fact that people are staying sports. One thing that can improve in South Central is all of the drugs that are over here. They are causing many problems. One of those is increasing the gang violence. I like going to school in South Central because all of my friends are here and most people get along. The three most important events that have the greatest impact on making South Central, LA what it is today are the LA riots, Gang History, and the Crack Epidemic.

The thing that made South Central what it is today is Gang History. This changed LA because there was more violence because of these gangs. They made it look like if it was okay to do bad things. They also are involved in the drug trade. Without them drugs wouldn’t be much of a problem. Gangs originated to defend themselves from being attacked by the whites, but now they are only being used to increase violence. This is important because a lot of violence comes form gang. Gangs have helped transform LA to what it is today. I chose it because gangs have changed LA and made it into a more violent place.

Another thing that made South Central what it is today is the Crack Epidemic. The Crack Epidemic was a very sad time for the City of Angels. A lot of violence was occurring because of the use of crack. People began to spend all of their money on crack. That is all people wanted to do. Many people became homeless due to the fact that the drugs were changing their state of mind. The violence also increased because of crack. The reason I chose this is because if this would have never happen LA would be a completely different place today.

The third thing that helped make LA what it is today is the LA riots. They began in 1992 after the verdict for the Rodney King trial was wrongly judged. People began to go crazy because they were tired of being taken for granted. The riot lasted about 5 days. The national guard had to come to the city and stop the rioting. In the end 53 people died during the riot. The riot ended up costing 1 billion dollars. This is important because we had to rebuild the city just because A black male was beaten and justice wasn’t served. The reason I chose this because the riots changed LA some places haven’t even recovered from the riots 19 years ago.

The three events were Gang History, The Crack Epidemic, and LA riots, These events had a giant influence on LA today. The gangs increased violence in the city and also homicide. The Crack Epidemic brought homelessness into thew community and the LA riots brought destroying of he city. South Central will change in the future and become a better place. Before that can happen I believe that something horrible will happen before that.

Abortions Good or Bad?

Eric Soto

5/12/11

Period 3

Abortions are surgery that could destroy two lives at one time. In the story Teen Pregnancy pros and cons by Mark Huttenlocker it talks about how abortions can be good or bad thing. Abortions should not be legal because teens are at a high risk of a disease, they are more likely to commit suicide, and they can develop psychological problems.

One reason why abortions shouldn’t be legal is because they can develop a disease such as pelvic inflammatory disease. On the first page 5th paragraph of the article it states “Teens are at a higher risk for post abortion infections such as PID.  This means that they still might not live a normal life after the surgery. It matters because the surgery isn’t 100% full proof. Many people can have long-term problems because of this disease.

Another reason why it shouldn’t be legal is because they are more likely to commit suicide. On the first page 6th paragraph of the article it says, “Teens who abort are 2 to 4 times more likely to commit suicide.” This means that the surgery can stop two lives. This matters because people these are others people lives that we are talking about.

The last reason is teens are more likely to develop psychological problems. On the first page 7th paragraph of the article it explains, “Teens who abort are more likely to develop psychological problems. This means that teens can be sent to a mental hospital. This surgery can cause them to go crazy.

People might say that it should be legal because they might neglect their child, but if they feel that way they can always put it up for an adoption. Teens can have many consequences because of an abortion. Abortions today are destroying many lives.
